UK Social Media Communications Awards 2013

I’m really pleased to have been asked to be a judge for this year’s UK Social Media Communications Awards.
And with the exception of yours truly, the rest of the judging panel reads like a who’s who of social media communications in the UK too – including Neville Hobson and Stuart Bruce who I first met and heard speak back in late 2006 at a social media conference called “Delivering the new PR“.
Looking back the six and half years since I went to that event, their insight back then helped me see how digital was radically changing the communications environment. And it was that recognition that’s helped me progress my career so far since then and has led me to all sorts of exciting professional opportunities that I’d never had experienced otherwise.
Anyway, back to the UK Social Media Communications Awards – now in their fourth year, the awards are about celebrating the very best in UK social media communications and will be held  in London at The Emirates Stadium on Thursday, 24 October 2013.
This year’s awards are being launched in association with our headline sponsor UK Fast, media partner PRmoment and are once again supported by both the CIPR and PRCA.
There’s a wide range of categories for all sorts of different social media campaigns in the awards. I’m looking forward to seeing some innovative and evidence-driven submissions that really show how social media can make a difference to the outcomes that communications can deliver.
There’s also the Mark Hanson Award – this was created to recognise the next generation of social media savvy comms talent in the UK. It’s designed to keep the memory of Mark Hanson alive and recognise the most promising social media communicators under 30 years of age on the date of the ceremony. So if you know a bright young social media operator this is their chance to get the recognition they deserve.
The closing date for entries is Friday, 12 July 2013, although unfortunately we can’t enter any of our good work at Medway Council or East Sussex County Council as judge’s organisations aren’t allowed to enter – which is a shame as I’ve got a great little campaign about using social media to drive up MMR vaccination rates that deserves recognition!
